MADRID (AFX) - Consumer prices rose 0.3 pct in June from May, and were up 4.2 pct from a year earlier, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said. In May, consumer prices rose 0.4 pct month-on-month and 4.2 pct year-on-year. Analysts had forecast June consumer prices to rise 0.1-0.2 pct month-on-month and 3.9-4.1 pct year-on-year. INE said underlying inflation -- excluding food and energy product prices -- rose 0.3 pct in June from May and 3.6 pct from a year earlier. Analysts had forecast a 3.5 pct year-on-year increase.
